Volunteer Positions:

  • Adoption Counselor – Adoption counselors work hard placing companion animals into permanent, loving and responsible homes.  This position requires good people skills and extensive knowledge of the animals currently up for adoption in order to make lifelong matches with families.  Duties may include: reviewing adoption applications, showing animals to potential adopters and counseling potential adopters on care, handling, expectations, animal behavior, needs and the like.
  • Animal Care Assistant – This position works closely with the shelter staff to ensure that all animals get a thoroughly cleaned kennel, fresh water and food and cozy bedding. Other duties may include: laundry, cleaning food bowls, restocking supplies, general cleaning, organizing and assisting with various kennel duties.
  • Community Events – In partnership with the Napa County Animal Shelter, we participate in a variety of off-site adoption events. Volunteers are always needed for set-up, clean-up, transporting and hosting the adoptable animals, advocating for adoption, educating the community about services offered by the animal shelter and other animal resources within the community.
  • Cat Socializer – Cat Socializers are the best part of the shelter cat’s day. The goal is to provide exercise, entertainment, comfort, companionship and socialization to the cats at the shelter.  Duties may include:  socializing, cuddling, cleaning cages, toys and socialization areas, changing out beds.
  • Dog Walker – Dog walkers play an important role in the health and well-being of the shelter dogs and work year round, rain or shine. Exercise has the same effect on animals as it does on people.  Lower your cortisol, improve your mood and well-being and walk or run some grateful pups!  The goal is to provide exercise, comfort, companionship, and socialization to the dogs at the shelter.  Duties may include walking, training, socializing, cuddling, cleaning kennels and changing out bedding.
  • Foster Parent – Foster parents are always needed! By proving a temporary and loving home for animals in need, foster parents are invaluable.  Food, supplies and medical attention (if needed) are provided so there is NO COST to volunteers!  You provide the love and the animal shelter provides everything else.
  • Front Office Help – We have several options for those volunteers who prefer behind-the-scenes work. If working directly with animals isn’t your thing, consider volunteering in the front office at the animal shelter.  You could help with typing, stuffing envelopes, making phone calls, filing, photocopying, and data entry.  Volunteers must have the ability to follow instructions and typing computer skills are a plus.
  • Photographer – Do you believe in love at first sight? So do we!  It’s so important to have beautiful, professional photos of the animal shelter’s adoptable for the public to see.  The photos are used online as well as print.  With new animals moving to the adoption floor each day, we can always use a willing photographer who can capture the animal’s true personality.  Duties may include: wrangling animals and working with other volunteers.
  • Rabbit Socializer – Join our team of rabbit socializers who provide enrichment, exercise in pens, comfort, socialization, and companionship for the shelter’s rabbits while they wait for their forever homes. Duties may include:  providing enrichment, socializing, cuddling, cleaning houses and changing out carpet swatches.
  • Friends of NCAS Volunteer –Do you have a passion or special skill set that could help shelter animals? Friends of NCAS needs volunteers to help with projects which support the shelter and our mission of promoting pet adoption and lifetime care and providing community education.  Duties may include: fundraising, assisting with events on and offsite, database entry, making phone calls, stuffing envelopes, photography and audio/visual projects, etc.  Volunteers must have the ability to follow instructions.  If you have a special skill set and want to volunteer to help us help the animals in Napa, please contact us at friendsofnapaanimals@gmail.com.
