About Us

Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter was founded in 2017 by shelter volunteers that recognized a need to develop, fund and manage programs to assist with pet adoptions, lifetime care, promote volunteer opportunities and provide community education so families can stay together.

Our Vision

At Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter (NCAS) and Adoption Center we strive for a future where our citizens are responsible guardians and all animals live in a safe environment, thereby putting an end to abandoned, neglected and abused animals. All animals deserve a chance with a loving family of their very own.

We directly support NCAS and the community by providing funding and support for programs including:

  • Medical emergency fund
  • Hispanic outreach
  • Community adoption events and promotions
  • Volunteer program

Our Mission

Friends of the Napa County Animal Shelter is dedicated to improving the quality of life of our animals in Napa County by developing, funding and managing programs to assist with adoption and lifetime care, provide community education, and to promote volunteer opportunities.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Since joining the Friends of Napa County Animal Shelter board in 2019, Michele Dahlberg has poured her heart into advocating for animals and creating a home full of love. Over the years, Michele has adopted several pets from the shelter, including Elsa, a majestic Great Pyrenees she welcomed in late 2019.

But Elsa isn’t just any dog. She’s a protector, watching over Michele’s two cats (one also a shelter graduate), a sweet rabbit, and four chickens, ensuring everyone stays safe from predators. Beyond her role as a livestock guardian, Elsa’s heart shines as a certified therapy dog with Loving Animals Providing Smiles (LAPS). Her gentle, comforting presence brings warmth and happiness to seniors, children, teens, and developmentally disabled adults, spreading joy wherever she goes.

We are so grateful for Michele’s tireless dedication and for sharing Elsa’s beautiful, loving spirit with our community. Together, they’re a shining example of the extraordinary bond between humans and animals.
